Were it not for the sheep, HPF would not have a story to tell.  In the early 1800s, farmers from the Overberg region imported a teacher by the name of Hermanus Pieters to teach their children Dutch, the forerunner to the Afrikaans language.  Mostly paid in sheep, they used to graze at a fountain where he camped, which eventually became known as "Hermanus Pieters' Fontein".

The wines of HPF combine a European mindset and gravity concept to minimize handling and intervention during the winemaking process.  The eco-conscious farm is located in South Africa's cool climate, premium wine producing South Cape Coast region and nestles in the sheltered mountainous area called Sondagskloof in Walker Bay.  Because of the cool climate and clay soils, the wines have natural acidity and minerality, making them excellent old-world style food wines.  Less than 20% of the farm is under vine, further demonstrating their commitment to quality over quantity.

2015 SWARTSKAAP Cabernet Franc

served with grilled ostrich tenderloin, olive and fig caramel, heirloom carrots

2018 POSMEESTER Merlot

served with dark chocolate ganache, fresh berries, spiked chantilly cream
